Strong agree. Our forum died the year we moved to a Facebook group and I still miss it. Owning the discussion on your own turf is worth the moderation effort.

Counterpoint: most comment sections are ghost towns or rage farms. The difference is whether the author participates. Presence beats tooling every time.

Both can be true. Tooling cannot fix an absent owner, but bad tooling can absolutely kill an active one. Looking at you, every plugin that takes nine seconds to load.
